Introduction

Selling or buying digital products, like templates, e-books, courses or software keys? Here's how to do it safely, whichever side you're on.

A download can't be taken back

Digital delivery can't be undone. Once a buyer has the download, it can't be returned, and a reversed payment would leave the seller with nothing. Escrow fixes the order: the payment is held first, and released only when the buyer confirms.

Buyers: read the license

As a buyer, start with the license. What you're allowed to do with a file depends on its license: personal use, commercial use, or resell rights. Check the file formats too, and ask in the deal chat before you pay.

Buyers: pay into escrow

When you're happy, choose Buy with Escrow Protection. You pay the price plus the escrow fee, and your money is held, not sent to the seller.

Buyers: open every file

When the files arrive, open every one of them. Check the formats, the fonts and the pages, and test any license key. Only confirm receipt when it all matches the listing.

Buyers: if something's wrong

If something is missing or doesn't work, don't confirm. Ask the seller first. If it isn't fixed, open a dispute, and a moderator reviews the evidence from both sides.

Sellers: list with a clear license

As a seller, listing is free. State the license clearly: personal, commercial or resell rights, and price each one accordingly. Only sell what you have the rights to.

Sellers: wait for funds held

When a buyer pays, wait until the deal shows funds held. Then deliver inside the deal, within the delivery time on your listing.

Sellers: deliver a complete package

Send everything the listing promised: every file, in the formats you advertised, with a short note on how to use them. Most disputes come from missing fonts, missing source files, or formats the buyer can't open.

Sellers: get paid

When the buyer confirms receipt, your price is released to your wallet. And if the buyer never responds, it's released automatically, thirty days after delivery starts.

Four rules

Four rules to remember. Put the license in writing. Keep the payment in escrow. Deliver, and check, every file. And confirm only when everything works.

Timing note: the narration describes the normal path. If the buyer neither confirms nor opens a dispute within 30 days of delivery starting, escrow releases the payment to the seller automatically.
